Chinthamani Ganpathy Maha Yanga -
20th Feb. 2003
Then
traditional rituals in our Holy land are manifold. The greatest
of such a rituals is “Yagna”. Agni or Fire God is invoked as a
medium to carry our offerings to any form of God. We generally
perform, Ganapathi Homams, Chandi Homam, Maha Rudra Homam,
Gayathri Mantra Homam, Navagraha Homam, Dhanwanthari Homam, and so
on. Agni, one the five elements, is considered to be the powerful
God. He burns anything that comes His way. He is also considered
as purifier, next to Water. In Ramayana, Mother Sita proved
herself to be sacred by entering the Agni and Agni Bhagavan gave
her back to Sri Rama stating that she is sacred and pure. It is
always important that Agni should be under the management of more
powerful element than him to avoid any destruction that happens.
Sun God is million times powerful than Agni and that is why, the
yagnas are being conducted only by sunrise, and completed before
sun set.
Recently, I
had the good fortune of sitting through a unique yagna, conducted
in Chennai. This Yagna was “Chinthamani Ganapathi Maha Yagna”.
We have heard about Vallabha Ganapathi, Ashta Sidhi
Ganapathi, Uchishta Ganaapthi, and in many more names.
But this is the first time, I am hearing about “Chinthamani
Ganapathi”. Naturally it evoked lot of interest and curiosity
about the background of such a Yagna.
This yagna had
been conceived and guided by none other than Sri. Bombay
Srinivasan. He is a Sai Devotee, who had been initiated into
Kundalini Yoga some 40 years ago. His Guruji, Dhyani Maharaj Sri
Madhusudhan Dasji had also initiated him into many Sidha mantra
deekshas. Sri Srinivasan had faithfully and reverently
undergone the vigorous practice of many Upasanaas, and
Anushtanams on each and every manthra into which he had
been initiated. One of such manthras is “Chinthamani
Ganapathi Moola Manthram”. This Manthram, invokes the
Grace of Lord Ganesha to bless us to get all our desires
fulfilled, and to invite to Goddess Lakshmi to our home. I know
about few devotees who had undergone anushtanams on Chithamani
Ganapathi Mantra, after receiving initiations from Sri Srinivasan,
and derived the desired results.
This week in
the Chinthamani Ganapathi Maha Yagna, the rituals were very
meticulously organized. Twelve learned Vedic Brahmins were
inducted into this yagna, under a Chief Agnihothri who is well
versed in Yagnas and other rituals. But none of them knew about
this particular mantra. So as a first step, Sri Bombay Srinivasan,
initiated all the 12 priests into this mantra. They accepted him
as their Guru, and received Mantra Upadesam from him.
The Programmes
started at 5.00 am. in the morning after the normal procedure as
per Sai Culture that is chanting of Omkaram, Suprabhatam. Since
the moola manthra (the main chanting) needs to be educated to the
performers, Sri Bombay Srinivasan took the responsibility of
teaching the same to them. Sri Bombay Srinivasan today took the
position of Guru and initiated the performers with moola manthra.
After doing so, all the eleven vedic pundits chanted the manthras
in unison, each accounting for 1008 times. Simultaneously, the
chief Agnihothri, was doing some other rituals. He had installed
in the sanctum a specially made silver Yantra of Maha Ganapathi.
The two hour long pooja for the yantra was called “Aavarana
Pooja). The Chief Agnihothri explained to us that while the small
‘bindu’ (dot) in the center represented Ganapathi, each corner of
the triangles and petals represented various devathaas. He also
explained that a small vacant portion just about the trtiangle in
the center, represented the “Place of Guru’. Ritualistic Poojas
for each part of the yantra was completed. The yantra is said to
be receiving and storing the chanting of Moola Mantra. The
chanting of Moola Mantra scored over 10,008 times. ( 11 pundits
each of 1008 times.). It took more than 4 hours to complete the
mantra chanting.
Later the
Homam started. Eleven separate items each of 108 Nos. were offered
into sacred fire, by each pundit. The items included, Modhagams,
sugar cane, coconuts, various fruits, Grass (Arikampullu- they
call it), Jaggery, Avil Pori etc. The actual homam lasted over
one hour, followed by Poorna Ahauthi.
Sai Premi Dr.
R. Balakrishnan, spoke about the efficacy of yagna. He told that
though this Chinthamani Moola Manthra was not known to anybody in
the south, the meaning indicates great benefits which can be
derived by chanting the same. Sai Bhajan was also conducted for
one hour. Aarathi was offered to Bhagavan Baba.
